BOX486 PLAQUE FIXES

Box486 is based on the work of the 19th century French physiologist E.J.Marey. Amongst other things, he was working on layering (photo-) graphic images on to a photographic plate; the so called ‘plaque fixe’.

The way that information was stored on this ‘plaque fixe’ can be linked to the way that the modern harddisk is working: save information onto a disk and work with this data on a later moment in time.

Despite the significance in modern society and the fact that lots of people work with them on a daily bases, computers are still seen as ‘black boxes’ that can do magic. Box486 however makes the beauty of the harddisk visible in realtime.

For this object, the metal frame of a harddisk is partly replaced by glass. This manipulated harddisk is the hart of Box486.
